It is amazing what you can discover when you take the time to look around! Above is an image of Lake Chatuge from the Towns County Park in Hiawassee. Joyce and I had been on our hiking adventure to Blue Hole Falls and decided to drive up to Hiawassee and visit Lake Chatuge.
Lake Chatuge is a man-made lake on the Georgia/North Carolina border, that was created by the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA). The resevoir was formed by the construction of Chatuge Dam on the Hiawassee River which was completed in 1942. The lake covers over 7,000 acres with 132 miles of shoreline that attract many visitors who enjoy boating, fishing, swimming and just admiring the views offered in the beautiful mountain setting.
Though I often think that there’s never anything good coming out of government activity (especially in light of the current Presidential campaign). It looks as though there are quite a few projects like Lake Chatuge and Lake Lanier, completed by the TVA and the Army Corps of Engineers, which we can actually enjoy and be thankful for.
I know that many people from the Atlanta area own mountain cabins or just go up to Hiawassee and Lake Chatuge for their summer-time recreation but this was the first time that we had actually stopped here. The area is beautiful and I will certainly return again in the future.
