Drip, drip, drip

Yes, we have had some rainy weather but there is still a lot of beautiful stuff to see.  This is an isolated shot of a raindrop at the tip of a dogwood leaf.  I was attracted by the water but the combination of detail in the leaf and the great bokeh of the fall colors in the surrounding area is what made this for me.

Nature is forever giving amazing sights for those who take the time to look.

Buds ‘n Berries

Autumn presents color in many forms.  It has not been very visible in the leaves so far but there are lots of red berries in evidence now.  The dogwood trees look a little distressed when you view the leaves but the iconic berries are bright and beautiful.

I pushed the contrast and detail on the processing here to make this more of a graphic image.  Liked the way the lighting makes them jump out and scream for attention.

Spring is here, Dogwoods and pollen

Well, it has been warm enough in Atlanta to qualify as Spring for most places since January but now, it is officially Spring and nature has exploded.  Some of the most beloved signs of the season, like dogwoods and cherry blossoms, are now evident as you can see from this example in my front yard.

At the same time, one of the most hated Spring visitors has returned – POLLEN.  According to the Atlanta Allergy & Asthma the pollen count from yesterday was 2924.  As a reference, a total pollen count of 1500 is considered Extremely High and that’s as far as the scale goes!  Last year we had a few days that went over 4000 so, I’m afraid that it is bad news for allergy sufferers.

I’m going to try to stay on the positive side and enjoy the beauty of Spring.  I will just have to put up with my car being tinted yellow and my throat being sore for the next few weeks.  Hope the flowers are worth it.

One more dogwood shot

What can I say?  The dogwoods are showing some nice colors and I had to share one more view.

Dogwood berries

Though not as abundant as in many years, the dogwoods do have berries visible this fall.  I love those bright red splashes of color.  This is definitely one of the signs of autumn that I look for every year.

Fall foliage

The autumnal colors are trying their best to give us a show in spite of the drought we have been in.  A couple of days ago, I posted an image from this same dogwood tree where you could see the color creeping into the leaves with the veins showing different color from the leaf.  What a difference a day or two makes!  The leaves are now beautiful shades of yellow and red.  There are lots of spots and wilting along the edges but the color is still there.

Now, someone needs to tell Mother Nature that this is really supposed to be the Fall season.  Yesterday, I put on my jeans and pulled out a sweater and ended up wearing shorts all day because it was too hot.  Once again, we are in the Atlanta version of change of season.  The season changes every day and sometimes multiple times in the same day.  Oh well, enjoy it while you can.  I’m sure winter will appear all too soon and then I’ll be longing for summer to return.
