Firey Fall colors

On a sunny November day you can still find some amazing light and color to brighten the landscape.  Although most of the leaves are on the ground these days, not everything has gone barren yet.  I am really enjoying the cool weather.  Not in a hurry for winter now even though Christmas is on its way!

Hope you all are getting out and enjoying this season as well.

Blazing barberry

Most of the autumn color in the trees has faded here but there are still a number of bushes that are displaying great fall shades.  This barberry bush in my yard is covered in red, orange and yellow hues which shine in the sun.  I just had to get a shot and share this will everyone!

Autumn color

Well, there is definitely some color in the trees around Atlanta now.  It’s kind of a weird blend.  Some trees have turned brown and dropped most leaves, some are getting the colors in and others are still green.

I went out and gathered some examples from around my yard.  Maple, sweet gum and dogwood leaves together make a nice combination.  I don’t know that the weather is helping with the change.  It keeps going from cold to warm.  Hopefully, the change will be more complete in the coming weeks.

Crowd of Chrysanthemum

Today, I thought a little color would be appropriate.  I’ve been wishing for those beautiful fall leaves but that isn’t here yet.  A close-up view of a group of brightly-colored chrysanthemum flowers will have to do.

That’s not my leaf

This arrangement is my attempt to copy Mike Moats in combining leaves with interesting tree bark as a background.  Many of the fabulous shots that Mike shows use birch trees which are not plentiful around here.  There are however, many sweet gum trees in the Atlanta area so, that’s what I went with.  Putting this vibrant red maple leaf on the surface of the gum tree made a nice composition.

It may not be a smooth white backdrop with curls of paper-thin bark peeling up but there is plenty of texture and contrast.  It works for me!

Seasons changing

In Atlanta, there is never a single change of season.  The seasons change constantly when Spring or Autumn come around.  We go through all 4 seasons in a week, sometimes even in a day.  Right now, we have been blessed with some autumnal weather.  The night can be in the 40’s and the days are cool but pleasant.  Of course, it may be back in the 80’s any time now but, it’s great for the moment.

The plants really have no idea what season it is either.  Here’s an example of the mixed up seasons.  My hydrangea bush is putting out new leaves and has beautiful blue blossoms on it.  At the same time, the ornamental maples that are all over around here are about half-way turned to fall colors.  I thought putting them together would give a nice contrast and show what a wide variety there is in this area right now.

Store-bought Autumn

Well, if Mother Nature won’t cooperate, we just have to go out and buy our Autumn colors!  The trees outside still think it’s Summer since the temperatures have been pretty consistently in the high 80’s.  That means, if I want some fall color, it has to come home in a pot.  This beautiful red and yellow chrysanthemum was just what we needed.

I haven’t done much macro work lately so, with the weekend being pretty overcast, I thought this would be a great opportunity.  It really should be an easy topic just about any time but I get lazy.  That should never be my excuse since there is always something just waiting to be made into a nice image.  Just need to get up and look for it!
