Another view of Lake Brantley

It was a bit cloudy on this Saturday morning but the view of the lake was great none the less.  I posted a shot that centered on the fall foliage colors previously.  This view has some of the color but also shows the foreground and the surrounding trees that are still green.  I bet if we returned this week, most of the trees on the left side would be showing brighter colors and some of the ones on the right will have dropped their leaves.

The autumn peak seems like it will be gone quickly. The spots that first showed color in the ornamental maples are starting to look bare.  More leaves on the ground than on the trees.  Better get out and enjoy before it’s too late!

About to drip

We went very quickly from Summer to Autumn around here.  The recent rains really bring out the colors but also knock down alot of the leaves.  The ground is carpeted with them now but, I hope we will continue to see the beautiful colors for a while.

I wish we could get a commitment on what season it is.  Should have a cold snap the next couple of days but, it could be warm and sunny quickly after that.  I guess I should enjoy what fall weather we have since it will look like winter before we know it!

Hard Labor Creek State Park

On our way out to Bostwick this weekend, we passed through Hard Labor Creek State Park.  From the roadside, we saw some beautiful fall color and then this lake came into view.  Spectacular reflections of brilliant leaves and beautiful blue sky screamed out “Pull Over”, so we did.  The Autumn season has suddenly burst forth in the area and this was a great time to take it in.

Autumn color

Well, there is definitely some color in the trees around Atlanta now.  It’s kind of a weird blend.  Some trees have turned brown and dropped most leaves, some are getting the colors in and others are still green.

I went out and gathered some examples from around my yard.  Maple, sweet gum and dogwood leaves together make a nice combination.  I don’t know that the weather is helping with the change.  It keeps going from cold to warm.  Hopefully, the change will be more complete in the coming weeks.

Crowd of Chrysanthemum

Today, I thought a little color would be appropriate.  I’ve been wishing for those beautiful fall leaves but that isn’t here yet.  A close-up view of a group of brightly-colored chrysanthemum flowers will have to do.

That’s not my leaf

This arrangement is my attempt to copy Mike Moats in combining leaves with interesting tree bark as a background.  Many of the fabulous shots that Mike shows use birch trees which are not plentiful around here.  There are however, many sweet gum trees in the Atlanta area so, that’s what I went with.  Putting this vibrant red maple leaf on the surface of the gum tree made a nice composition.

It may not be a smooth white backdrop with curls of paper-thin bark peeling up but there is plenty of texture and contrast.  It works for me!

Holiday trimmings

I should be doing a lot more macro work now that Christmas season is upon us.  There are so many colorful and highly detailed decorations all around to capture.  This is an arrangement that I put together featuring a Waterford glass ornament set in a clear glass bowl filled with other old glass ornaments.  I lit these from both above and below to bring out the sparkle of the main subject and to have the background bright as well.
