Kelly and Grzegorz are the featured performers in this acrobatic dance segment of the Luzia show.  They leap, spin and flip across the stage in a beautiful combination of latin dance moves and gymnastic thrills.

Of course, the show lives up to the Cirque du Soliel trademark with fantastic music, visual scenery, lighting and costumes.  It is full of comedy, spectacular acrobatic acts and feats of strength and bravery.  I have seen several of their shows and have never been disappointed.  It’s something everyone needs to see.

Ready for Autumn?

One of my favorite places to visit on our walk through Historic Roswell is Greenwood’s Restaurant and it’s sister facility – The Yellow House.  Tucked in just off of Alpharetta Highway on Green Street, this is the place to go for excellent fried chicken and also for an eclectic collection of things to look at.

The image above is one of the fall-themed decorations by the entrance to the Yellow House.  It is rather frustrating that the temperatures continue to feel like summer when it is October but, at least we’ll be ready when the season actually starts to change.

Hope we see the fall colors in nature (and cooler temps) soon!

Elaborate costume

Historic Roswell Antiques and Interiors is a neat place we always look through for image opportunities on our photo walk.  Inside, you will find a wide variety of interesting items from small trinkets to huge furniture pieces.  I saw this decorative sculpture (actually a pair of them) and loved the patterns in the ceremonial head dress and the way the mirror reflects to show the back side as well.

Next time you’re in the Historic Canton Street section of Roswell, you should take a look here.

Stainless Flower

Once again this year, the City of Roswell is sponsoring Art Around Roswell, with 10 original works of sculpture spread among the city parks.  This gleaming stainless steel sculpture grows like a mechanical flower from the center of Heart of Canton Street park.  Just across Alpharetta Highway from Smith Plantation and Roswell City Hall, the busy traffic passes by totally unaware of the art work.

It is amazing what beauty often is right in front of us but goes without notice.  I have seen some of the other installations which seem to be pretty much in the same spots as with last year’s exhibit.  We should all get out there and appreciate this public art that is a gift to all who pass by.

On our walk this past Sunday, we saw one of the installations for the new “Art Around Roswell” exhibit for 2017.  I made the rounds to see all the sculpture from last year’s first annual exhibit and just happened across this one.

The sculpture is positioned along the Roswell Riverwalk just across the street from the Chattahoochee Nature Center.  Titled “Reception“, it is the work of artist Fred Ajanogha.

There will be nine other sculptures appearing throughout Roswell and will be on display for the year.  There will be ribbon cutting ceremony for the 2017 Art Around Roswell tour on Saturday, April 22, at the Heart of Roswell Park on Canton Street.  Be sure to keep your eyes open for this wonderful artwork!

Sunday morning

It’s Sunday morning and I thought this was a good image to post before I run out to cantor at two consecutive masses this morning.  The Cathedral of St Augustine is full of stained glass but I really liked this one window which had sunlight streaming in through it.  The little streaks of color were dancing around in the cove of this window and made it fantastically beautiful.

Pray for me, that my voice doesn’t give out and I will pray for you for a great week to come.

I really enjoyed my photo shoot for the Roswell Dance Starz last week.  It is amazing to watch how all the pieces come together in a dance production.  There are costumes, lighting, music and of course, the choreography.  But, it is not just a matter of laying out a series of steps across the stage.  There is so much going on with each individual dancer and with the group as a whole.

I think the thing that impressed me the most was how each dancer paid attention to the lines and positioning of the whole body.  Arms and hands are as important as the feet in presenting a graceful pose.  In a group like the one above, there is also consideration to how each dancer is positioned in relation to the others.  Sometimes they are in unison, everyone facing the same way and using the same pose and then, there are times when no two are alike.

I’m not sure if I am more aware of all these things because I can’t do this myself or not but, it is quite a beautiful scene to watch.
