Fun with textures

The original version of this image had an almost totally white background.  The flower and butterfly are nice and sharp but it was kind of stark with not much of interest in the background.  I have been playing with Smart Photo Editor which has lots of different filters you can apply.  Adding an interesting texture in the background makes this look like a hand-colored artwork.

I masked out all of the flower and butterfly so the texture didn’t cover any of that.  Even with the contrast between the painted background and the realistic subject, the overall result looks to me like it was planned to look like this from the beginning.  It’s obvious that this is not an “out of the camera” shot but I think it’s pretty successful as an art-image.

Photography is my way to capture and share the amazing beauty of God’s handiwork in the people and places that I experience every day. I focus mainly on nature and travel subjects but also do alot of event work for my church and the occasional wedding or portrait session. My residence is Roswell, Georgia – a northern suburb of Atlanta. I try to get around the Southeast as often as possible and would love to explore other parts of the USA and the rest of the world.
