Gather ’round

One look at this radio tells you a few things.  First of all, it’s obviously pretty old and secondly, it has been well used.  Look at the wear marks around the tuning knobs and along the edges.  This is something that was constantly being touched.  Of course, there was a time when the radio was the main source of entertainment for the household.

I was remembering the scenes from the Christmas Story movie where Ralphie would race home to hear the Little Orphan Annie show.  This radio isn’t what would have been around in the early days of radio but it harkens back to that time.  Maybe it was just the constant companion of grandma as she did her daily chores.  I remember my grandmother always had the radio going with news and music keeping her company in the kitchen.

We’re surrounded by so many sources of information and entertainment today.  It’s kind of nice to remember back to a time when that one little box was so central to keeping us in touch with the world and bringing music into our lives.

Photography is my way to capture and share the amazing beauty of God’s handiwork in the people and places that I experience every day. I focus mainly on nature and travel subjects but also do alot of event work for my church and the occasional wedding or portrait session. My residence is Roswell, Georgia – a northern suburb of Atlanta. I try to get around the Southeast as often as possible and would love to explore other parts of the USA and the rest of the world.
