Purple Parasols

This was an interesting plant that we saw at the botanical garden.  The common name is Purple Parasol or Stokes Aster.  Scientifically, it is named Stokesia laevis.  It’s kind of amazing to me that I had never seen one before.  Stokes’ Aster is native to wetlands, bottomlands, wet pinewoods, savannas and ditches mostly along the coastal plain from North Carolina to Florida to Louisiana.

I guess you learn new stuff whenever you go out and pay attention to what’s right in front of you!  Might be a good backyard plant for the Atlanta area.

Photography is my way to capture and share the amazing beauty of God’s handiwork in the people and places that I experience every day. I focus mainly on nature and travel subjects but also do alot of event work for my church and the occasional wedding or portrait session. My residence is Roswell, Georgia – a northern suburb of Atlanta. I try to get around the Southeast as often as possible and would love to explore other parts of the USA and the rest of the world.
