Reception

On our walk this past Sunday, we saw one of the installations for the new “Art Around Roswell” exhibit for 2017.  I made the rounds to see all the sculpture from last year’s first annual exhibit and just happened across this one.

The sculpture is positioned along the Roswell Riverwalk just across the street from the Chattahoochee Nature Center.  Titled “Reception“, it is the work of artist Fred Ajanogha.

There will be nine other sculptures appearing throughout Roswell and will be on display for the year.  There will be ribbon cutting ceremony for the 2017 Art Around Roswell tour on Saturday, April 22, at the Heart of Roswell Park on Canton Street.  Be sure to keep your eyes open for this wonderful artwork!

Pink Hyacinth

OK, so there are a few spring flowers blooming.  I captured this beautiful pink hyacinth on my walk around Smith Plantation on Sunday.  I love this kind of flower that is a bundle of mini-blooms which from a distance look like one big blossom.  The closer you get, the more you appreciate the individual flowers.

As I continue to explore the macro world, I am constantly amazed at the intricate shapes that make up small things.  The colors and curves that make each of these little flowers are a wonder to look at and make me appreciate the fantastic variety that is here in the world around us.  Whether it is vast landscapes or tiny microcosms, God’s handiwork is awesome!

Details

One of the few plants that seem to have weathered the frost of last week are the hellebores.  I saw these blooming at Smith Plantation weeks ago and they are still thriving now.  Where most of the early Spring bloomers were withered by the cold weather, these beauties don’t seem to mind.  It is nice to see that not everything got crushed by the cold snap.

In this image, I decided to focus on just a small section of the petals to get the pattern and color as well as the detail of the veining.  Set against the bright spring-green behind it, I thought this made an interesting combination.

Spring 2017 – Part II

I went out this weekend in hopes of finding some Azaleas in bloom but was sadly disappointed.  It seems that we are going to have two Springs this year.  One has already happened and the next is in process.  With unseasonably warm weather this winter, we had an early spring that started in January.  Many spring bulbs such as daffodils have already come and gone.

I’m not sure what the azaleas will be like this year.  Some had started to bloom and were killed back with the cold snap we just had.  Hopefully, the plants will recover and we can have Spring 2.0 right around the corner.  In the mean-time, I can still find a few examples of spring like the one above.

River-walk reflection

It seems that the time-change has extended the hours of the River Walk along the Chattahoochee in Roswell.  Joyce and I went out around 5PM yesterday to walk along the river with the thought that we would be pretty much alone.  That was not at all the case.  The walkway was still very much in use and there were parties in the pavilions along the river.  It seems that, since this was a nice, warm and sunny day, everyone had the same idea.  I guess the fact that we just made the spring-ahead time change had something to do with it since there was no hint of the sun setting anytime soon.

We spotted this Canada Goose along the way.  I just loved the reflection in this scene.  Of course, within a couple of minutes, all the other passers-by saw it as well and the geese swam off due to all the close attention.  Oh well, at least i got a decent shot before that.

Sunday morning

It’s Sunday morning and I thought this was a good image to post before I run out to cantor at two consecutive masses this morning.  The Cathedral of St Augustine is full of stained glass but I really liked this one window which had sunlight streaming in through it.  The little streaks of color were dancing around in the cove of this window and made it fantastically beautiful.

Pray for me, that my voice doesn’t give out and I will pray for you for a great week to come.

Wishing I was back at the beach

This week has been a real challenge weather-wise.  It has been too cold and too dreary for me.  I know, there are other places that got snowed in and where it is really very cold but I was so ready for spring and summer weather that this is just not fair.

It’s only been a couple of weeks since we traveled down to St Augustine but I’m definitely wishing for this kind of morning over what I see out my window.  Gotta say, watching the sun rise over the waves at the beach would sure be nice right now!
