A great day to be a butterfly

A monarch butterfly doing its thing for the sunflowers at Fausetts Farms in Dawsonville.

When I saw David Akoubian’s pictures of sunflowers this week, I knew we needed to make a trip to Dawsonville.

It would have been an excellent outing had we not taken GA400 to get up there.  On top of the ordinary weekend traffic on the highway, there were 2 accidents while we were driving up there.  The first one was an over-turned horse trailer on the southbound side.  A pretty serious incident but it was on the southbound side and we were going north and still, the traffic came to a nearly complete stop.  Then, before we went 2 more exits, another accident and the highway was completely closed!  We finally got off and took Highway 9 up the rest of the way to where we wanted to get off originally.

After all that mess, we finally got rolling again and made a quick stop at Gibbs Gardens before continuing on to Fausetts Farms.  The last couple of years, I have gone to Andersons Sunflowers in Cumming to get my sunflower shots.  The Andersons decided not to open to the public this year which was disappointing but Fausetts makes them look really tiny.  The fields at Fausetts were huge!

The flowers were a little past their peak and it most likely won’t be worth another drive up for us, but if you have some time to head that way this week, it is quite a sight to see.

Photography is my way to capture and share the amazing beauty of God’s handiwork in the people and places that I experience every day. I focus mainly on nature and travel subjects but also do alot of event work for my church and the occasional wedding or portrait session. My residence is Roswell, Georgia – a northern suburb of Atlanta. I try to get around the Southeast as often as possible and would love to explore other parts of the USA and the rest of the world.
