Joyce and I stayed in Blairsville, Georgia overnight during our visit to Brasstown Bald this past weekend.  This is a beautiful little mountain town which attracts a lot of people from the Atlanta area who come to escape the heat of the summer and enjoy the lakes and mountain views.  Although nearby Dahlonega is more well known as Georgia’s gold mining location, Blairsville was also a gold mining site whose mines are said to have had the purest gold in the USA.

At the center of Blairsville’s town square stands the Historic Union County Courthouse.  This Romanesque brick and granite courthouse was built in 1899 and was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.  It is now home to the Union County Historical Society.  The next time we visit, we will need to spend some more time and maybe visit the Union County museum that is located here.

Photography is my way to capture and share the amazing beauty of God’s handiwork in the people and places that I experience every day. I focus mainly on nature and travel subjects but also do alot of event work for my church and the occasional wedding or portrait session. My residence is Roswell, Georgia – a northern suburb of Atlanta. I try to get around the Southeast as often as possible and would love to explore other parts of the USA and the rest of the world.
