For the Beltline photo walk that I went on last week, the starting and end point of the event was the Ponce City Market on Ponce de Leon Avenue in the Old Fourth Ward of Atlanta. The immense building which has just gone through a complete rennovation was originally home to Sears Roebuck & Company.
I only got to see a little of the area while there but what I saw was really impressive. The facility includes shops, restaurants, office and residential space. It connects directly to the beltline and is immediately next to Forth Ward Park and only a couple of miles from Piedmont Park, the Carter Center, the Fox Theatre and just across the 75/85 connector from downtown Atlanta.
This is another place I need to visit again when I have more time to take it all in. Many very interesting neighborhoods surround the market and there seems to be lots of activity here without it being crowded. You do have to pay for parking but, that’s just the way things are when you get so close to downtown. Maybe I can return soon and continue my exploration of the beltline.
